Phasmophobia is a dying game, but it seems to be one of the best reviewed games ever, so why is it falling?

Phasmophobia is an upcoming indie survival horror game developed and published by Kinetic Games. The game became available in early access through Steam for Microsoft Windows in September 2020, along with virtual reality support. The game received a large influx of popularity the following month due to many well-known Twitch streamers and YouTubers playing it, mainly for the Halloween season. As of October 15, 2020, the game was the sixth-most popular game on Twitch and the best selling game on Steam globally.
Although first releasing around mid-September, the game began to pick up steam around the beginning of October when it was being played by many notable Twitch streamers and YouTubers such as PewDiePie, SwagDracula, xQc, Pokimane, Jacksepticeye, Sodapoppin and Markiplier. This was likely due to the game becoming early access around the beginning of the Halloween season, as well as being similar in popularity to its inspiration P.T. It could also be due to the start of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic causing many people to stay at home. With the influx of players due to the large amount of popular streamers playing the game, hackers became widespread during the later weeks of the game’s release, mostly by trying to jumpscare players or spawn an infinite amount of items. One of the more concerning examples of hacking were stream snipers, who changed their player models to a more NSFW one, likely causing said streamers to receive warnings and bans for inappropriate content. The devs then began working on updates to solve the problem.
On Twitch, the game grew exponentially and even reached the top 5 most viewed game in mid October, overtaking games such Among Us, Fortnite Battle Royale, FIFA 21, and Genshin Impact. According to online player tracker GitHyp, the game hit a peak of over 86,000 active players around October 10. Sorry if you were reading this, im keeping this little sentence here to see if anybody steals my description, because with all of my last videos I find people stealing my scripts, descriptions, and even full blown video lol. The game became a Steam top-seller, and by the end of October 18, 2020, was the best selling game of that week, even beating out Fall Guys and pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077.The game is currently the highest selling game on Steam for two weeks in a row.
Phasmophobia has received positive reviews from critics. Rich Stanton of PC Gamer called it “the best ghost game ever made”, as well as declaring that it was “unlike anything else I’ve played”, and that it “comes up with shit that’ll turn you white”. Cass Marshall, writing in Polygon, also gave a positive review, describing it as “a nice, cozy kind of horror”, and that “once [it] gets rolling, it is brilliant”, while also finding that the game had numerous bugs. Jeuxvideo.com described the game as being quite original and imaginative, on top of being creepy. They felt that the maps in the game were well thought out and that the level of progression was well paced. Whilst the review criticised the game for its animations and certain redundancies, they felt that they would likely be smoothed out with constant updates before the game’s release. A review by CBR described the game as “the perfect game for the Halloween season”, praising it for its unique jumpscares, as well as for its sound design. The game has been compared to many other horror games of a similar nature, such as Friday the 13th: The Game and Dead by Daylight.
Phasmophobia the horror game is a scary experience. I think everybody loves Phasomphobia yet phasmophobia is already dying. I decided against saying phasmophobia is dead because is is yet to reach that level of irrelevance and potentially never will. However phasomphobia, or phamophobia game (it is also the definition of the fear of ghosts) is on a quick downfall and if we don’t hurry Phasmophobia will be irrelevant fast.

It’s scary? Nah
1. Is not free to play
2. Ghosts need change(same as dead players)
3. More interactions
4. New Jumpscare
Etc
I play i was like f!ck run run run ahhhhhhh it was fun but lot playing i get bored
I still play it. It's great
Is was popular during the spooky scary season 100%. Then after everyone played it around october, it fell hard cuz everyone already watched it all and knew how to beat professional. I just wish it had more updates for replay-ability.
YES NOW HE'S USING THE RIGHT WORDS!!
Am I the only one who didnt know about this game?
Trust me it may be slow now but mark my work this October is going to be a great month for this game
0:24 Can't believe that scream came from a grown man LMAO
i have phasmophobia
i dont mean the game the actual phobia
This game is actually surprisingly still alive within my friend group, we always manage to find ways to make it fun.
Before even watching the video, I can already give a few reasons.
They didn't fix bugs, they hardly add new maps, optimization on some maps is very bad, they haven't added new ghost types, there are few to no hiding spots on some maps, and sometimes ghosts just don't give evidence.
Phasmaphobia was scary in the beginning but when you spend 5-20hours the game gets repetative jumpscare dont scare you anymore, also this game gets very easy after you figure out the mechanics, 1 player grabs camera other grabs book thermometer and if you find the room you just put them and wait and when you get soo good you organise that and do it in like 5min so the ghost doesnt even have time to jumpscare you, dont get me wrong I like this game but I love hard games and have already mastered this one.
What about Vanossgaming and some of his friends? I saw them play the game.
this game can be such bullshit XD me and a friend of mine stood together in the ghost room(me in vr, him flatscreen) around a burning smudge stick trying to take a ghost photo while he just randomly starts chanting satan summoning latin texts XD
Bonus points the more popular a horror game gets the less scary it is. If I would play amnesia again today I wouldnt experience the mysterious atmosphere I already experienced and beaten, instead checking out where STEPHANO is because at this point its commonly associated with the youtubers behind it
Personally, I think the prime issue with the game is one thing alone: lack of content. I mean, within the past six months, the biggest update it got was one new map, the prison, and that was about it. While the developer has been working on depth-related content, like ghost interactions, unfortunately, experiencing these interactions in the exact same environment you've known for the past six months can seem a little tedious. The game definitely has alot of replayability, but it can only go so far where there are only eight maps to play within at least six months.
I think the solution to this issue is to hire more people. This game is only worked by one person (At least, I think it's still one person), and I think hiring more people to help work on content faster will definitely help out. I could be wrong, but that's the first thing that pops to my mind.
It's an amazing game but after hours of playing it just gets kinda repetetive and obviously much doesn't change for like months , we just need to wait untill it fully releases and its going to be better but its going to take a long time since only like a single guy is making it
I guess it's going down because there is only one person eating donuts while scripting the game, like cmon, Among us has 4 devs
The game only has 1 dev lol give him a break
There is a youtuber who I watched called Foekoe that did a review of this game and said that its not really scary and most of the assests are things that you can find on steam to make your own game.
Tbh, the jumpscares aren't that scary but the sounds make the game eerie, but the characters are just steam recycled stuff that look funny which ruins the games horror aspect.
The multiplayer is cool but sometimes your friends are gonna find a way to make the game funny.
After identifying like 2 of the supernaturals I was like is that it?… like I don’t have to try and catch it or like what else do I do I just put a note in a notebook and I’m done lol ok bye
0:23 that scream tho
The thing is, This game is really fun. But, It is really really fun with friends. However, my friends got bored of it and now barley play it at all. So now its a occasional game that once in a while I concider to delete.
Yeah I'm one of those that find it difficult to play horror games. Most of the time I rather watch youtubers play them. I dunno why I'm like this, maybe it cuz it feels like I'm not experiencing it alone or I'm more removed from the experience?
I love Phasmophobia, but the biggest problem I have with it is the lag. Sometimes I'm lucky to even enter the game with my friends. Most of the time it just crashes, or I have to stay in the truck because the lag is too much for me to handle. This is the only game on Steam that I currently have (other than Ancestors) that lags like this.
I really hope this game comes to Xbox
The game lacks a real sense progression.
To add on top of that, it doesn’t have that much gameplay variety.
Fun fact:
this game is only scary in VR and that's a fucking fact
I still find this game fun, and my friends and I still play it, I don't think it's that badly dying.
I have never heard about phasmophobia before watching this video
it did really die
I played it with friends last night, I think something that would help the game is the ability to make maps. User-made maps might increase interest because it wouldn't be the same maps over and over.
The game had big potential(may still have) , quite o unique game.
Truth is, the game was dead from the start.
I think maybe people can be dramatic. Games don't die, you play them, then stop, but if you really love the game you'll come back to it. As long as someone's playing it it's not dead.
Fall guys : first time?
the quicker the uprise, the sooner the downfall.
weird when i searched up how popular it still is it said it was stilll pretty popular and its getting regular updates
I think how they can promote phasmophobia is probably make a second game but the Creator finds more people to make the game a little bit more challenging and put a lot more effects and more excitement but for right now I don't see him doing that but you never know and I still play it because it's really fun and I really enjoy it
It's not plummeting to the ground at least, the devs are trying to increase the difficulty and are trying to cut the cheese to keep the playerbase going, In my opinion the game needs polish, especially on the animations, gameplay and ghost ai, the animations and player models is what kills the immersion to me, and reminds me that this is a horror game, the gameplay, although it looks complex, is too logical, for the record, it shouldn't, it should have a logical base mechanic, and the players should discover how the mechanic interact with what they think the ghost is and adapt on the fly, every ghost feels the same, except wraiths, fuck wraiths, which ties to my last point, the ai, holy fuck, it feels like I'm playing against a single ghost with some small tweaks, while on a technical level they might be different, they feel the same, and the only thing you can do when ruling out other ghosts as you find evidences is to also rule out tools that aren't going to be needed, it's only interesting in the beginning, but after you learn the patterns it gets really boring, every ghost will run in a straight line at you, no special powers when hunting (except wraiths), no small non-evidence clues for what the ghost might be, that makes the game pretty boring, but who knows, the game still has a pretty solid base and it's still in development, so even though the numbers are slowly dropping, I have hope for future updates, because this game is the best horror game I've played to this day, and I really want to see it thrive
My friend gave me a lot of shit for it, but I honestly didn't even feel like the game was that good. Take my words with a grain of salt, because I've only ever watched the game, but the game seemed low on content and definitely needed work. The low quality player models and animations really pull me out of the experience, the game just seemed unfinished. I eased up a bit on bashing the game when I found that it was early access, but I still feel like there's plenty of problems to address. For now, it was just another fad game blown up by streamers and youtubers, but I hope that it gets finished and regains traction because it really seems like it has potential.
This game was only popular for like 4 days 😂
Phas still has more consistent players then Avengers.
