Phasmophobia is an indie co-op psychological horror game developed by Kinetic Games. It was released in early access on 18th September 2020 for PC with crossplay VR support. Play with up to three other players as a team of paranormal investigators and explore haunted locations filled with paranormal activity.

The crucifix doesn't have to be in the ghost room itself, though it's usually the safest place. Some ghosts wander outside their room, so if it decides to hunt when it is outside of their room the crucifix inside their room won't help you.
Read the title as "Phantasmagoria". I thought "That's an old game to be playing".

Did you… Really play this game solo? Its way more fun to play with others and use the in-game mechanics of the walkie talkie and distance-reliant talking. Also some ghosts appear more in solo or in groups.
Orbs are nearly impossible, with a Crucifix in the same room. Also, smudging lowers ghost activity. Try to leave those two things for late tactics.
