Ive noticed the AI in demonologist is nonsensical and the jumpscares are random. It has bad continuity
Also. It has fewer ghost models.
And the ghost mechanics dont seem to be that good at all. And the lack of ghost mechanic descriptions for like over 5 ghosts is inexcusable.
The game suffers from the same problems as phasmo (you're ruling out say Mare because it doesnt do x and you look around the whole building for stains and all that shit and after 20 minutes find nothing)
And then it's a Mare anyway.
This happens like every game in demonologist, then ghosts just do not have consistent behavior in my experience
I got a 35/25 in phasmo meanwhile in demonologist i got like 3/15

The jumpscares are predictable after 13 hours of playing (yes only 13 hours)
And again, they have no connection to the actual ghosts that hunt you
Both games are really cool but I would love to see some new ghost types. (mainly for phasmohpobia) Like for example a ghost that has really bad eyesight but really good hearing so the only way to survive a hunt from it is to stand completely still.
I have over 600 hours in phas and have never tried demonologist simply becorse I dont like those scripted jumpscares, it feels to cheap and cheesy! Phasmo always feels fresh with every game
My Experience with both games were great.
In Phasmo, you can have 5 Minute rounds but also till 30 Minutes. It also has smoother hunts in my opinion.
Demonologists on the other hand has a long-paced gameplay. The rounds usually go up to 20 minutes (in my expirience) but can also go up to an hour (was a hell of a match XD). It is also MUCH and Ill say MUCH more spookier than Phasmo.
The things is, that the games are both for the "same price" and youll have to look what is better for you. A fast paced host hunting game with a smooth hunting mechanic, or a much spookier filled with jumscared and long paced gameplay.
Its up to you what you buy. Me personally cant decide which ones better tho. I play Phasmo more often and demo a few times (and holy shit did I shit my pants when doing so XD)
I find jumpscares to be incredibly cheap and boring, and the tools look confusing and stupid. I have seen some of the scripted jumpscares and moving chairs and whatnot in Demonologist, and I just don't find the game appealing, while Phasmo is a game I just constantly find myself excited to watch people play (I have barely played it myself though, I am just waiting for the update that is supposed to come out this month).
Buy both, they are great
Demonologist rivals are games as Ghost Watchers or Forewarned and tons of scripted Phasmo clones.
Phasmophobia plays in its own league, no game in its style.

Games like Demonologist are games for playing 2 days. Phasmophobia was or is being played for 2 years and on.

Me and my friends have tried and loved both games. As we started late this year, we did Demonologist first and find the game experience much spookier, though they still need a lot of improvements. Aside from the richer ghost types, maps and tools, Phasmo has much easier and more straightforward hunts while Demonologist's are a bit random (like the ESG and painting might take very long time to trigger and the ghost movement is weird sometimes). Currently, we're enjoying playing Phasmo more, but I still believe that Demonologist has the potential to be better in the future.
I really need to try these games and at 14 dollars thats a deal!
