The Summoning Circle will be coming as part of the Christmas update for Phasmophobia and seems to be a way to summon the ghost for ghost events and photos.
What you may have missed is the runes around the outside, and what their translation means.

    If it fails or you do something wrong the ghost takes over one of the players and warps him or her away to a random spot on the map

  2. Picked up Phasmophobia back in September so not been playing long, I don't feel that the world of the game is one where you have to "prove" the existence of ghosts.

    I know Phasmo has zero lore, but I tend to think of it as a universe where it is widely known ghosts exist, and are seen akin to pests and infestations like cockraches and ants and such. The business must be quite big if the company that you work for has a separate "Investigative Unit" and "Removal Unit". Quite possibly the Investigators are actually outsourced by the Removal companies, hence why our setup is a bit ghetto.

    Summoning circles are a bit of a odd choice sure, but it does work. Potentially locking the ghost to a certain place (preventing roaming) for the Removal Team to deal with later. Able to document photographs of it, possibly get some evidence from it while summoned. All manner of reasons why a Elimination business would use such a method.

  3. I hope it’s like the board. You don’t always find it, but someone left it behind. Also, it could be only common on higher difficulty to help force interactions. That makes the sanity drains more damaging. If the 4 different item are 1 for each different level with different side effects could be cool.

  4. i think if we are going to be able to create summoning circles, the item needed to make it is permanently consumed on use and needs to be constantly bought.
    maybe have an effect on your sanity to reduce your maximum sanity for the run? enough that at least some ghost types that early hunt, can early hunt.

  5. OOOooo I have an idea, maybe once you use this, the tradeoff would be that the ghost stops showing one type of evidence!!! (Perhaps in addition to a huge sanity drain)

    This would encourage you to hunt like normal until you've gotten all your evidence, and THEN use this to get your optional objectives done

  6. I'm looking forward to this. I am tired of waiting for ghosts to do events. My team doesn't even try for photos/events anymore because what's the point of waiting 20+ minutes for something so unlikely to happen? Even if it's a sanity drain, I would prefer to finish the objective and deal with the consequences, rather than just give up immediately on such objectives because we know odds are high we will only waste our time. Yeah, we do hunt photos but it's more fun and memorable to get close-up "glamour" shots.

  7. Correct me if I'm wrong but them summoning the ghost felt like they forced either an event or a hunt.
    If the penalty is just Sanity to trigger a free event then I don't think it's worth having the circles unless the risk was big enough (15+ Sanity maybe? Or being hunted right away?)
    But if the risk/reward is done right, it'd be an interesting mechanic

  8. Holy shit, never noticed what the runes were until this video. Those are Futhark runes! Also known as norse/viking runes by some, to simplify it and to know what they're from. I'm able to read those kinds of runes, and can confirm that it does pretty much translate to 'sacrifice your sanity.' 🙂

  9. Let’s be honest…. After sitting for 10 minutes with no Ghost event and a challenge you can’t complete this would be welcomed as right now if I have a ghost event challenge I ignore it and if it happens great but I’m done smudging and sitting waiting for an event that just never happens lol

  10. I agree, I hope this is like the ouji board where you discover it and can choose to poke at it. I'd prefer it if it was a rare spawn. Finding one should be somewhat exciting, not something where we debate whether to use it every darn game.

  11. I was hoping that in multiplayer, this would cause whoever lit the last candle to be "possessed" for a few seconds. By that I mean, they just can't move at all. And summoning the ghost also makes it hunt. This means there's a high chance that whoever lit the last candle will die unless the teammates lead it away

  12. I think this would work better for if they ever added an exorcism team. Say a player or players find at least what the ghost is, then once they leave will send it out as an exorcism mission and based on how much optional evidence was found changes the amount of information the exorcism team has at the start of their mission and the summoning circle only appears if all optional evidences are found.

  13. It's a difficult one for sure. Being able to control when things happen seems a bit op, however I am also getting pretty bored of hanging around for 30+ extra minutes after a run, sitting through like 10 hunts just to wait for a ghost event objective to complete. It would have to be extremely dangerous to summon the ghost to make it somewhat balanced. Like maybe it wipes your sanity away, interferes with your equipment for a while, initiates chain hunting or extreme aggression, and can't be used when your sanity is already low to minimise cheesing.

  14. I think they're headed more toward "Horror" than Ghost Hunting at this point. I will never use the summoning circle. I hope they never make it a side mission. I have no interest in control over the ghost. Developers always seem to think they need to take another step. The problem is many times it's backwards.

  15. You know what would be amazing? When you hit training, you can choose the map you want to train in. That way, you can be able to know what the name of each room is, and then for those new people, they can be able to find out. However, for the larger maps, the location will be more specific on where the ghost is at.

  16. I hope this will not be inside each map, I will never get to find the ghost with randoms, instant hunts in the 1st minute of playing cuz they sacrifice their sanity all the time, ye cant give plebs such a thing to use, normal people cant keep up with them, yas?

  17. What if in addition to a sanity cost, your party becomes bound to the ghost so it always knows where you are, making hiding from the ghost impossible and rendering hunts much more perilous?

  18. It would be cool if you have to find the 5 red candles in the house before being able to summon it – would be like searching for the bone and mean that you can't always find all 5 candles. Would obviously make it much harder on the larger maps so maybe the candles could all spawn in a box on the medium/large maps.

  19. The summoning circle is too strong and also seems a little out of place in this game. I think that instead they could completely rework the ghost event mechanic, because now it's too random, and whatever happens during ghost events lacks variety.

  20. Maybe they should be doing more jump scares, to be honest I have stopped playing phasmophobia, as I do not feel scared anymore, they need more ghost events scares etc, im not too sure about all the other faff coming,

    I had played DEVOUR which has absolutely terrifying jumpscares and you have to scream as its so scary, maybe phasmo should learn from this

  21. Given the strength of this for a free ghost photo, I'd think a minimum penalty of 50% sanity per player (so four all four if four players playing) should be given. I wouldn't even think it crazy to have the penalty as strong as 100%. Even with that strong penalty, players could still easily just quickly get a ghost photo at the end of a mission with little loss if they're already in hunting range and ready to leave.

  22. I think this a GREAT addition and should definitely be something the player can hold in their arsenal…. I agree though it’s dam powerful so should in my honest opinion start a insta-hunt after said apparition disappears as well as a sanity drop…. The game just keeps on getting better!

  23. Even if it does cost sanity, I hope this isn't something that can just be easily set up; I hope its not just a tool you can buy and plop it down, easy peezy. I think it would be cool if it was either locked behind some kind of new objective you'd have to complete during missions or if there were numerous pieces needed to collect in order to perform the ritual and they were all hidden and scattered around the map. Make the player work for it in some way, and then summon the ghost for the ghost photo as a reward.

  24. So is the circle something you just find in a house, or is it something you have to prep?
    It doesn't make sense for a house to have a summoning circle when everyone 'left in a hurry'.

  25. When I first saw this I was pretty excited and I saw him in a way. I think it is something that should spawn with a lower chance in fairly out-of-the-way spots on maps. And I think that when interacting with the summoning circle successfully it should do a random roll of the dice or even a random roll of the dice based on sanity that a hunt starts immediately on the spot with no grace period. That way you can Spond it if you’re curious enough but those repercussions could be instantly deadly. Maybe give it a slowness right at the beginning but it can start hunting instantly.

  26. i kinda wish the candles are scattered around and you can collect them to then put them in. give us false candles too that wouldnt work or would even have more impact on your sanity with no payoff. just make it extremely risky.

    i am personally not a huge fan of any religious iconography. i dont want pentagrams or upside down cross bullshit in the game

  27. Unfortunately I think they already left the realistic train a few big updates ago once they re-skinned all the items. They are trying to keep up with all the lame Phasmophobia knock off games that have been popping up, instead of just staying in the lane they created. Still fun though. I just hope it doesn't stray too far because if that's the case, there are better games to play in that wheel house.
