NEW Yokai Ability EXPLAINED | Phasmophobia

The Phasmophobia Christmas Update introduced new Yokai ability to make it easier to identify on Nightmare. In this video I am going to show you what abilities this ghost has now so you are better prepared for Nightmare mode.

  1. I had a feeling talking affected this ghosts behavior, but I thought it could have just been confirmation bias on my part too. Every yokai I've encountered since the new patch seems to act like a shade when I'm quiet and then massively ramps up their behavior if I talk around it. But I didn't want to assume that was what was happening in case it was just a coincidence as ghosts sometimes seem to be more active in waves anyways.

  2. In Tanglewood, while I was searching for the cursed object and bone, the Yokai did an immediate ghost event while I was in the garage. Its ghost room was around the Foyer. I don't remember talking, but even if I didn't, my microphone can pick up the background noise. If must've followed me there, heard me talk or something, and does a ghost event. It didn't do much while I was near its ghost room. Luckily, I don't like to talk as much, so it doesn't want to kill me much often.

  3. It used to be pretty bad. You could talk nonstop in the ghost room and the yokai wouldn't do anything. Used to joke if you go into the room and talk a bunch and it doesn't do anything, it is probably a yokai. The last update has improved it though.

  4. Wait, they can hunt at 80 sanity if you’re talking, then why did I get a yokai who refused to hunt me at 40-60 sanity while I was insulting it and saying it’s name, like seriously I got way too impatient and said screw the “repel the ghost with a smudge while being chased objective”

  5. Had a yokai do a ghost event which caused me to gasp "oh my god" scared noises and then immediately after it hunted. This was previous patch though so I was able to hide in a small tent.

  6. Level 800 and never have seen a Yokai using its ability, not even spamming voice chat in multiplayer. Yokai is one of those ghosts that just arent consistent. In Nightmare i first delete all the other options then I select Yokai by elimitacion process.

  7. Had a Yokai on Tanglewood. I talked to the spirit box and it hunted me straight in front of the main door, can't go anywhere from there. He spawned left when you enter the house and just murdered me.

  8. This might be a nice tip: I've seen Insym make a ghost (Myling specifically) eat a crucifix right after a ghost event, by just shouting loudly while standing where the event ended. If that's a way of pissing off ghosts, then a good way of checking if it's a Yokai or not would be to first find the ghost using salt/spirit box while your at high sanity, and then just either shout, or blow air heavily in your mic. If it hunts, it's a Yokai.

  9. It's been pretty horrible for us with yokais. We chat all together in the ghost room, we even sing but it never triggers our yokais. We just came up with a hypo – if a yokai is on the list, always choose it. It works in like 70% of cases. But still, it feels very broken for some weird reason.
