The more lights you have on, the more likely it is for power to go out. Also save the smudge sticks for when attack happens, then light them right when your flashlight starts to flicker and it should prevent the attack from happening

Holding he crusefix does nothing, you need to drop it and that still doesn't really protect besides if you put it on a spot where he ghost is then it will stop the ghost from a hunt, the ghost can spawn anywhere during the hunt so the ghost won't spawn on the crusefix. Also if you have too many lights on then the lights will ALL turn off
