In Phasmophobia many players still use the smudge sticks thinking they are doing something they aren’t. This is a guide on how they work and how to use the Smudge Sticks Properly in Phasmophobia!

So,
If you use smudge outside the reach of the ghost, during the animation you're still safe but the ghost will follow you until that end of smudge trigger?
If you use smudge with a friend and the trigger was outside the range of the ghost, the ghost will ignore you and turn onto other person in the meantime?
I smudged a few days ago right in front of the ghost and still died. Probably bugged that run sadge

You forgot to state what happens if you light the smudge outside the ghost range and let the ghost enter the smudge radius while it's burning. If it's not a continuous cleanse, what affect will it have on the ghost if any, and how will the ghost behave during the period between the start and end cleanses.
after you light the smudge when the ghost is close to you , do you throw it after with G ?, also can you run through the ghost after you smudged him for your hiding place ? or he can catch you even if you succesfuly smudge him if you touch him ?
Everytime I see anyone using it they light up and run around the room and we all think NICE WE ARE PROTECTED NOW lol
You could key bind to something other than G.
If you smudge in the van while the hunt starts and ghost was within 6 meter radius of your teammates does it help them？？
does ghosts get slower when you have smudge stick in your hand not smoking?

Bit late to the party here, but thank you so much for the info! Me and a few friends started playing not too long ago, we are level 70 but still had no idea how smudge sticks worked, keep making the helpful content my guy!
Great video but just for anyone who might see this now the smudge stick was changed a while back since this video so that now it activates once a second for the 6 second duration so it's a lot more consistent than it was previously when it was just once when lit then once when it went out. You now have 6 chances to cleanse it and be able to get away

I smudged once, hid, and the ghost wandered right to where I was hiding. I should have had a second smudge ready.
I did some missions with only a lighter and 4 smudges and just practiced, using a cursed object to force a hunt.

Me and my friend were sadly not coordinated enough and we went different ways. he died. but this is still great and thank you for the easy to understand explaination!

I can’t seem to tick off the cleanse the area near the ghost with a smudge stick. What am I doing wrong
I appreciate this is an older video now but i’m super new like level 7-8 and have a question. One of the optional tasks is to smudge where a ghost has previously been, maybe worded different. What is the effect of doing that or does it have no real effect?
You can also activate smudge stick with right mouse click
