Phasmophobia is 5% exciting and 95% boring

Here’s an idea, a ghost hunting video game! No, not ghostbusters, the boring kind of ghost hunting. The kind that relies on the investigators not knowing what dust is, or being grifters. Well, this is it. And you’ve probably played it already, so why are you even watching this video?

I've been playing Phasmophobia since not long after it got released in Early Access and have to agree with your sentiment. The concept is great and I like how the devs are constantly adding and improving things to make the gameplay more engaging but there's just almost no excitement because of how rigid the whole process is, how you gotta always do same, specific things in the same, specific way. It would be much more interesting if, for example, only one person had the journal but had to stay behind in the truck and communicate with the rest of the team, anything to make teamwork active and not passive and optional.

I guess what I wanna say is Phasmo's game design encourages almost total elimination of human error and the result of that is the more you play it, the more you learn how it all works, the less you actually enjoy it since you can predict most of what can happen and know exactly what to do when somehow something unexpected does happen.
If it was a training tool for actual ghost hunters, I'd say job well done but AFAIK it's meant to be a fun game to chill with friends (or randos).

The fact there's no custom maps and official maps are rolling out very slowly doesn't help either. I don't think the main developer wants to expand the core team much because of fear of the game losing direction and focus or something like that. Fair, I've seen that happen to other projects.

With all that said, I've noticed that people who get easily scared (and thus immersed) by this type of casual horror are the ones who enjoy the game the most and can bear with the repetitiveness.

In my opinion Phasmophobia has potential to be at least a 9/10 game but right now it sits around 7/10, basically not something I'd forget but also not something I'd come back to often either.
