The room you were in isn't the FULL room, the room connected to it is also counted, this means the ghost probably was doing stuff and chilling in there the whole time.

ghosts can do three kinds of hissing events, which they manifest and run at you then hiss, they could be a shadow, a cloud of smoke or a full manifest,
onis cant do cloud manifest, and they are more likely to manifest a full body when they do any kind of manifesting events.
