If you pick up the bone the ghost will hunt you first. The timer above the computer tells you how much time you have before the ghost will attack. You only lose the stuff you bought if you die.
If your sanity is low it is more likely to attack you.
You need to use in game chat for the spirit box to work and you have to ask questions.
