Candles only prevent the Onryo from early hunting, not prevent it from hunting alltogether. Without candles its' threshold is 65%, with them it's the standard 50%.

Thomas Thomas is always an adventure to experience. I remember watching Nuzzgard (Another Streamer) do a special playing with viewers, and there was very nearly a TPK because Thomas kept spawning Hunts in different rooms.
