  1. I feel like this could have an easy band aid fix. Just set an area to have no sanity drain if the lights are turned on instead of relying on the lighting system. It could at least temporarily fix the issue until something is worked out.

  2. Seems like it based on how close you are to the source of the light. But the hallway light/candle should still be a very slow sanity loss. Just seems broken, to me.

  3. Yeah, I've recently checked the candle thing with friends. one friend holding a candle, the other one sitting on top of it. Only my friend holding the candle wasn't losing sanity at all.
But the thing with the lights I wasn't aware of. Yes, I've noticed sanity draining kinda faster but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks a lot for this information <3 😀

  4. I noticed that lights aren't protecting you from sanity loss since the latest update; but I didn't really understand why.
Your explanation makes a lot of sense. I don't mind that the sanity loss is based on how much light touches you, it makes sense, if only it worked properly.

This update broke so many systems, it's crazy… We often have the light system completely "explode" in our games; dots become invisible; flashlights pass through objects; etc…

  5. So we call bugs "system" now? 😅 But to be serious, this has been in the game for ages to various degrees on different maps and areas. I've given up on tracking it for the moment and just hold on to my candle everywhere.

  6. Oh jesus christ that makes so much sense now – I was convinced I was dealing with an early hunting ghost on numerous occasions because I kept the lights on consistently, now I realise my sanity was just draining away

  7. I feel the way MOST people think it works is the following:
if the overhead light is ON in a room, then u should be able to stand in that room, and not lose ANY sanity
with the exception of small table lights, for those the current algorithm actually makes sense

and i feel that THIS way of calculating it, the way most people expected, should be the implemented way… just my two cents

  8. I’d love to see how their systems work numerically. Specifically how it calculates light amounts and distances in the game. I have some great ideas for how to implement this, but they might be resource intensive depending on what systems are in place or not.

  9. I feel like it should be all or nothing. For example, if you're in a light source, it reduces your sanity drain by 50%. Otherwise, you should lose the full amount. The only exception being the candle, which would reduce it down to 0% when held, though you'd still get that 50% reduction when standing on top of it. Idk, maybe that's how it worked before, lol, but i feel like you should always be losing sanity, seeing as you're in a literal haunted house, even with the lights on.

  10. I suspected that the lights and placed candles were not really preventing sanity drain. The reminder to stay in the light is misleading if light doesn't actually protect you from sanity drain.

  11. I think I noticed this when the moroi first came out, as it was the first ghost that really relied on sanity drain and can deny normal ways of protecting yourself. At the time we already knew about the spirit box and it’s interaction, and you can cancel with pills.
So I went to do a baseline test where I stood in the light without talking to the spirit box and it stilled drained and I had thought we had wrong info

  12. i see…..another nerf for the players. Not like i cant even indroduce people to this game anymore, because even on the lowest difficulty, you have to know all the mechanics in the game.
    thanks for the info

  13. Technically speaking, even before the Tempest update, it always had been the case that you'd either preserve or lose sanity based on how much light surrounded you but it has been exacerbated lately. Street houses were not a problem but there were pockets where you could still lose sanity even in lit rooms. It was (and still is) worse in farmhouses and larger maps. If you're doing zero evidence runs, you're better off keeping the lights switched off and time yourself in the dark with the paramic timer. If you really need to preserve sanity, carry a candle with you.
