emf 5 IS NOT ghost activity 4.
they sometimes happen at the same time. but the ghost activity thing just shows you something is happening.
and there are MANY things that will bring it up to 4.
not only an emf5. and so you cannot use that as a comparison.
it's an emf5 when you see all five lights on the emf light up. AND IN NO OTHER CASE
I tried the EMF5-van method long before it became popularized (back in October) and found it to be nearly as inconsistent as it is effective, even knowing what to look for.
Ghost activity now varies so widely based on the new personalities that EMF5 ghosts (esp Banshees; who fixate on their targets as soon as they enter the building, and especially the ghost's room) that I only use this method when I suspect I'm missing EMF5 in light of other evidence, and don't want to risk chain hunts due to low sanity.

wait if ghosts have like een just emf 2 wouldnt that be evidence cause the ghosts cannot trigger emf readers without the evidence

Here's how you detect emf5… You go inside and pull out the white box and watch for it to go to 5.

Once I realized this was a thing, I been using it at have gotten EMF 5 100% correct while using. It definitely isn't accurate all the time, however I never had it be wrong when seeing multiple jumps within a short period.
Whenever I see the spikes on the activity meter (I'm a truck hugger), my team mates are able to help confirm the EMF5 reading if they're in the building.
Majority of the time, it's EMF5. Just make sure it's double checked before making assumptions of EMF5.
Love this quick little video. I had noticed a pattern of 0-4-0 being a very common occurance for ghosts with emf 5 as evidence a little over a month ago, and while i've only ever used it an been wrong once (yurei had my whole team confused) this trick helps out a lot when there's a small amount of people inside or if the ghost is in a big room.

I didn't even think to use the activity monitor in the van for EMF 5. I'll usually set up 2 emfs near doors or other things it might interact with and leave a camera on the floor looking at the emf readers so anyone in the van can check them if I'm off looking for the bone or going to get more equipment when the emf goes off. Today all my emf 5 ghosts were Phantoms, I got pictures and figured out what they were before we ever got an emf 5 reading. 3 Phantoms total today, one of which I took a pic, it disappeared, but kept making grudge noises. Dead give away very early on.

Sometimes the EMF doesn't feel like detecting level 5. So my friends and I refer to the chart as a last resort.
The most valuable use of the monitor is to tell a second player on the inside when to switch to the EMF and sweep for that EMF 5 reading.
I think that a poltergeist is the only ghost that can throw two things within a 1-second period – its special ability triggers multiple throws simultaneously. Ghost events are a state that creates an appearance and either closes ALL doors in the target room, or turns off ALL lights in that room, or both. In my understanding, those are the main ways that ghosts can cause multiple EMF spots even though they can only "choose" one action every few seconds, so those should be the only other ways to get a jump of 4.
Appearances can only happen if someone is in the house, right? That would mean a jump of 4 before anyone enters is either a poltergeist or an EMF 5 for sure. I don't have a firm grasp of the Appearance/Event logic, even having seen the code a while back. I'd love to know more about how they work. (I know there's a few different ways they can happen, and only some of them count as witnessing a ghost event.)

When im choosing between emf5 and spirit box, i make sure i can really confirm that spirit box is really not working so i can go with emf5. I did a lot of mistake with a lot of emf5 in activity chart but the real evidence is a spirit box.
I thought this was interesting so I tried it for like two minutes and it was unbearably boring. Do people really just watch the monitor for signs of EMF 5?? Screw that. If it's taking that long to find an EMF 5 spot the normal way and theres only one evidence left then just take an educated guess and move on to the next haunting. Even if you guess wrong, you'll be racking up cash and wins faster than if you're in to staring at a line graph all day. Also, surely what you should really be looking for is if it changes by 5 several times since that takes in to account all the other activity. Haven't tried it, I dunno.

I'm level 300 something and I'm just now learning that the activity monitor is in any way tied to EMF levels… woops.
the only time i use activity to detect emf 5 is if we cannot for the life of us find a third evidence, but emf would fit, and the ghost spikes 0-4 a least twice within a minute. usually more.
Basic Java/Javascript algorithm, I wonder if ghost with the EMF evidence have a large emf bonus to their actions? If I was the coder, that's an easy way to set it up, yes bad for the long run but good for implementation of basic interaction, to be fleshed out later.
Where can one see the source code? Is it reverse engineered?
Does those event last as long as an emf 5 activity too?

Activity monitor isn't the same as the EMF meter. Don't know why people can't distinguish these differences. We don't have EMF level 10 do we? No! And, activity lol 5 can still happen with a non emf lol 5 ghost. Idiots!

I know this is a fair bit dated, but what's worked for me 100% of the time so far across I'd say 20+ games is seeing EMF 5 on the chart. From what I can tell, EMF 5 (evidence) is almost guaranteed if it spikes from 3-5 straight to 0. The formula for it seems to be EMF level on the reader -2 at least and the exact same at most. Is it right or have I just gotten way too lucky?
i know an even better way to know when its emf 5: take this item called the "emf reader" and pull it out when the ghost appears or does stuff, and if all 5 lights show up you put down emf level 5
