I Made Phasmophobia in RPG Maker Under 2 Weeks

Making a paranormal investigator horror game has been my dream for the longest time, except I never knew how to execute it. After playing Phasmophobia, it re-inspired that old idea in me, but first I needed to make sure it was possible. Hence, the demo!

Be sure to give it a play! Let me know if you like it and consider donating to support me 🙂

(And to clarify, the future project would be a Phasmophobia inspired game with its own narrative and not Phasmophobia in RPG Maker -See Comments for Details-).

Why I decided to keep the Sanity Mechanic Hidden
I wanted the player to have the fear of re-entering the house to feel as though it could be their last. Also, with how small the map was, I didn’t feel as though sanity pills was worth the effort. My target deadline was Halloween, aka less than 2 weeks. I definitely had to take several shortcuts by excluding certain items/mechanics.

Just a word on this project before any confusion. I do not plan to make a full version of Phasmophobia RPG Maker Edition. Phasmophobia belongs to Kinetic Games and it was never my intention to make an RPG clone. The purpose of this project was to push myself as a developer, the capabilities of RPG Maker MZ, and to seek interest from the public for this type of game on the RMMZ engine. If it turns out well, I will work on a project that instead takes inspiration from what I've learned in Project PhasmoRPG to make my own game with its own narrative. This project was only possible due to my love of Phasmophobia and much early dream of making a Paranormal Investigator game.

  2. Enjoyed the video a lot!

Seeing how many horror games you play, what is your stance on horror movies? "Poltergeist" is the first movie that comes to my mind, when talking about paranormal investigators.

  3. technically, Santa is the most wanted and dangerous criminal. Annually, he breaks into about 580 billion homes in under an hour, which means: he has a way to traverse the word infinitely fast. Now for the elves, he has most likely bio-engineered a sub-species of humans and has sent them to stalk billions of families. Now, where does he keep them, they of course would be spotted, since they are the size of an average human leg. Most likely, he has found a solution to this, since he has access to equipment, with which he can travel infinitely fast he must have the resources to male something with which he can hide the elves well. Coming to the conclusion, he most likely owns a dimensional pocket, in which he can hide the bio-engineered elves. With this we can safely conclude that Saint Nicholas is THE most wanted and dangerous criminal in the world.
