I did a set of games where I play Nightmare difficulty and attempt to find the ghost. I had some moments. Good friend Mr. Roscoe was also there.

I remember the very first time I played this. I was progressing with my tasks slowly, mostly hiding in corners at every weird noise and picture falling, trying to learn the game and explore the house.
At some point, when the ghost started walking around like it owned the place, I found myself cramped in a corner by a glitching TV, not very keen on moving, without much understanding of what was going on, as the in-game heartbeat sound was pounding in my ears on and off.
When I finally made a dash for the main door, begging for it not to close on me, got out, hands mildly shaking, I realized this little adventure that felt like 15 min took a little over 1.5 hours. I'd completely lost track of time, mostly stuck in that one corner. And that was my tutorial experience. 🙂
As a coop horror, it delivers what it promises. It's very creepy to play solo and while it's maybe less scary with friends, especially when everyone keeps talking and cracking jokes, as soon as that sanity drops you'll get your fair share of adrenaline even on smaller maps. & the big maps will put you in the shoes of every horror movie character who's had to utter the classic, ever so well-boding phrase: "Let's split up".
Most importantly, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements, have a graphics card with a fair amount of memory. I know it says that lower specs can work for non-VR, but imo that's a gamble you're more likely to lose. I had all sorts of lags, stutters, long loading times, and couldn't play at all on larger maps with a barely-meeting-minimum older system.
A microphone is a must, not just for communication, but for the game to work/scare you properly. Having the ghost react to your words is where the fun is. Voice recognition can be a little wonky, sometimes you get to repeat the same questions over and over, alone, in a dark room, with nothing happening. Sometimes you'll get mismatched answers. "What do you want?" – "Behind you." – Um, nani?? @_@;
Your online play with randoms experience may vary, there's a certain level of toxicity like in any other online game. You can get into a nice lobby or you can stumble upon a hacked one, & as a newbie you can get instakicked for low level or not saying "hi" within 2 milliseconds of joining to show you have a mic. The official Discord server is a better option to find people to play with, especially if you're flying solo.
I wouldn't say that you need to excel at teamwork in this game, it's more important to have nice people who enjoy the game in a similar way that you do. Sure, there are objectives and some daily challenges to complete for dosh, but mostly it's all about the screaming/gasping/cursing during ghost events, hunt panic and trust exercises in the form of "you go talk to it, I'll hold the door".
Game is not too complicated to learn, it gets updates & events, and is pretty much what you'd expect it to be. Not sure what the future will bring, but at this time even for early access it's a solid addition to your game library.
