Best advice I can give for new players: if you play alone like I mostly do, try to keep your sanity very high by staying in the light or using candles or pills, do not look at the ghost when it events, and try to avoid using the cursed objects, use them only if absolutely necessary since they use your sanity as a trade for valuable information. Below is a list of what to expect from every ghost type if you are curious.

    Spirit = The most basic ghost in the game. Despite being basic and having no unique abilities, it does have one big weakness, it won't hunt for 180 seconds after being smudged unlike the other ghost's 90 seconds. Keep track of the smudge time.
    Yokai = My personal bane, it hates noise. Do not speak freely around the ghosts room, they hunt at 80 sanity, this can prevent unnecessary hunts. Only speak when you try to get Spiritbox and even then, be safe. When it does attack, they cannot hear players or see flashlights well, they have shorter ranges compared to other ghosts. Either way try to avoid detection or better yet try to avoid being hunted in the first place.
    Myling = Easily detectable on bigger maps with the Paramic. If it hunts, you cannot hear it's footsteps until its practically on top of you.
    Mare and Jinn = Mares will never turn on a light to aid their power of hunting at 60 sanity in the darkness. Turn them on to lower that chance to 40 sanity. On the opposite end, Jinn will never turn the breaker off, as well as Jinn being distinctly fast in hunts if the power is on and chasing someone.
    Wraith Phantom and Banshee = All 3 of these ghosts can either teleport or roam to your location at any time far away from its room. Wraiths teleporting give an Emf signal and they can be flushed out with the Salt trick: if you dont see footsteps with the Uv or glowstick, or you dont get credits for Footstep photos, it is a Wraith. Phantoms are obvious with vanishing after photos and their very slow blink during hunts. Banshees are easily stopped with crucifixes and give themselves away in Multiplayer with being harmless to other players if a target is nearby. (Due to the Banshee's power to hunt at any sanity being moved to the Demon, I am unsure if the Banshee can still wander to the player at any point. The power worked by the ghost going to any random point in the map and if the player comes too close to it, it will attack at any sanity no matter what, crucifixes and smudges cannot prevent it.)
    Twins = Due to their nature it is easy to know what it is on smaller maps. On bigger maps, if you have a ghost that only gives you Emf5, it may be the decoy Twin which cant give spiritbox or freezing and the real Twin may be elsewhere in the building.
    Demon = Do not lose sanity at all costs if possible, if you are unlucky with your sanity, you could be hunted to no end. Also, regarding the Banshee ability being added to the Demon, if the ghost hunts out of nowhere but ends immediately, it is a Demon and the power is bugged, will be fixed soon. (Unknown if the Demon can now roam to a spot and ambush a player like the Banshee did, more testing is required.)
    Yurei = My most common ghost. Since their ability has been fixed, they have become very menacing. When a Yurei now uses its drain power, every door will slam shut like a ghost event, and you will lose at least 20 sanity. If the Yurei seems very roamy, smudge it to keep it still to gather evidence easier.
    Hantu = The biggest giveaway for a Hantu is when it events or hunts in the ghost room, you will see the ghosts breath. Extremely slow in warm rooms but nimble in colder ones. Generally harmless but keep the power on so it does not make every room cold and become able to speed everywhere.
    Obake = They have a chance to not leave fingerprints on stuff so don't rule out Obake until you are certain the ghost you have doesn't have it's evidences, and dont forget they have a rare 6 fingered handprint. (Due to me not ever encountering an Obake even to this day, I'm unsure of what else they can do.)
    Goryo = As a ghost that will not roam much, it is a blessing on certain maps. However, in order to get its Dots evidence, you cannot be in the room it is in, I recommend standing outside the room with a video cam to see the Dots clearly.
    Onryo = A very aggressive ghost that can hunt at 60 sanity, this ghost has the unusual property of treating Candles as crucifixes. Place all candles and crucifixes near the Onryo and make sure to keep every candle lit. If your last candle goes out, it will attempt to attack you even at 100 sanity.
    Oni and Poltergeist = Extremely active ghosts that love to give away their evidences, especially Oni on multiplayer. Be wary of the Poltergeist throwing objects especially the multi throw distinct with its loud noises, every time it throws it will drain your sanity more than others.
    Shade = Obviously shy and hard to find, it is recommended that on multiplayer if you dont get activity from the ghost, try having one single person be in the room. A good trait is if multiple people are close, it wont attack unless it either roams away or only one person is in its room. Sadly this trick will not work in single player due to you always being alone. When you are alone, Shades will still be slightly shyer. IMPORTANT: I just received information that Shades have been weakened to the point that they will not hunt until 35 sanity. It is officially the weakest ghost in the game tragically. Enjoy a ghost that will do basically nothing now, you might even think you never had a ghost. They've been my favorite for a while now due to them being unexpected surprises of joy, but now that they got nerfed harder than the Righteous Bison in Tf2, it goes from making people angry about it to bringing it pity. I will still love Shades.
    Revenant and Raiju = Potentially the most dangerous against newer players. Try to avoid being hunted due to their extreme speed when it chases someone, and with Raiju hunting early being possible, if you get one of the Raiju's evidence (Orbs Emf and Dots) remove the equipment from the room. If you get hunted by one of these, hide IMMEDIATELY. The best way to keep yourself alive if you are in the open and have a Revenant or Raiju running full speed towards you is to keep a smudge stick on you and light it, you only have a few seconds to find a hiding spot once you do. A quirk with the Revenant and Raiju is, while hiding, you can listen to the footsteps. If it sounds fast, it is either a normal ghost or a Raiju near some equipment speeding around. If it sounds very slow, it is definitely a Revenant.
    Mimic = The newest addition to Phasmophobia instantly changed the game. At random times, the Mimic will choose a ghost's ability to use and can do nearly anything, such as hunt like a Demon at 70 sanity, have the Revenant's speed boost, use a Poltergeist's super throw, even the Yurei's drain. Although the Mimic is very obvious due to having essentially 4 evidence pieces (Orbs Fingerprints Spiritbox and Freezing), it is still the most powerful ghost in the game. Keep your sanity as high as possible to avoid the early hunting range of Demons, Yokai, Raiju, Onryo, and Mares in darkness. Also keep a smudge stick nearby you for emergencies due to the Revenant, Raiju, Hantu, and Jinn speed boosts. Never rule out a Mimic.

    Below that is my Advice for new Players

    My Advice for new Players: If it hunts, dont freak out and just speed off, you might run into it. take a second to listen where the Sound is coming from, also if you play on a higher difficulty like Professional where only 1 hiding Spot is per map, try to find the hiding spot first and if you hide in a closet and the ghost walks past them and opens them you can close them immediately but you need to be fast. OH and don't speak during Hunts and turn everything off thats in your Hand thats electric, like Spirit Box/Flashlight etc, it attracts the Ghost to your Position

  6. If you have a revenant dont lok at it when you loop it. Because they are fast with line of sight and will kill you and be careful when using curswd possesions mirror music box board etc because they can die from all anf also demons can see through closets lovkers etc

  27. My advice: Learn about basic stuff only (goal of the game, items/instruments). Maybe even play the tutorial once. But then hop onto a game with at least one slightly experienced player and 2 other noobs. Best combo ever for ultimate fun! Remember: You will never be able to do this again when you have experience. This is why I recommend you to not learn too much. Know basics, but then JUST PLAY and learn all specific stuff yourself. That actually IS possible. When you can barely figure out stuff yourself or you want extra knowledge then it's time to learn the more advanced stuff from tutorials imo.

    Also(!) play on a small map the first time you play. Preferably Tanglewood.

  28. tip for new players basically memorize the map, know hiding spots. second is make sure u are not talking while ur in ur hiding spot even if u are not pressing the push to talk button since the ghost is always listening even if u dont press ur voice chat button. third tip is listen to ur surroundings, sounds could help u identify the ghost room and also find out where the ghost started hunting because the ghost could hunt not just in their ghost room, so knowing where the ghost is when it started hunting u know which hiding spot to go. my tips are survive thats all I wont give tips on finding evidence all I care is to survive.
