Small correction, bones are never cursed objects. They're collectibles that you pick up to earn money. Before picking it up take a pic of it for an easy 3 star pick (which also earns you more money). Every game there is always a bone hidden somewhere in the map for you to find.
As of Feb 2023 there are six cursed possessions: haunted mirror, music box, oujia board, summoning circle, tarot cards and voodoo doll. Each of the objects have a different use that can help you but it's kind of like playing russian roulette because they can also break and cause a cursed hunt, which is a hunt that can happen regardless of avg sanity level and cannot be prevented by crucifixes or smudge sticks (smudge sticks can still be used during the hunt to confuse the ghost for a few seconds to give you a chance to hide). Taking a pic of a cursed possession is also another really easy 3 star pic.
If anyone is interested in understanding game mechanics or especially how the ghost actually works, I highly recommend checking out guides by @Maggstor! Her guides are helpful and very straightforward!
