1:16:55 The way the crucifix works is the area 3 meters radius (5 for banshee) from the crucifix will prevent a hunt FROM STARTING. It won't end a hunt if it has started, you don't need to throw it at the ghost, you can have it in your hand or placed in a room, hunts can still happen if a crucifix is out and the ghost spawns outside the radius. After the hunt has started, the only thing that can affect the ghost is a lit smudge stick which will disorient the ghost for a couple seconds so you can escape.
