  1. As someone who doesn't enjoy hunting as a method of figuring out the ghost, I personally suggest if someone is this new to the game, forgo the orbs to start. Get your main room lights turned on–foyer, hallways, kitchen/dining rooms, and then turn on a light and turn it off when you're done otherwise (like when entering a bedroom/bathroom). An experienced player will feel that the sanity drain isn't that great, but it's greater in the perspective of a new person, and easy to lose track of. If you're brave, or have some time in the game, doing the camera and lights off first is great, though I've been encountering orbs sometimes taking FOREVER TO SHOW UP. idk if that's a feature or a bug 🙁

Bang on about the DOTS pen, and using two. Putting it on corners, or on shelves, is ideal. Don't carry it. And if you have two, position them across the room, facing one another. Maybe a little askew to point in slightly opposite directions. The key is pointing it from the wall to the space that has the most room for movement, basically, and ALWAYS have it on the corner/edge of something. Don't hold it or place it on the floor, or further back on a surface. It's a cone of dot light, and when you place it on the floor or far back on a surface, you're blocking part of the cone unless the dev screwed up a table/counter. Put a flashlight IRL down on the floor, on the edge of a table, then in the middle of a table, and you'll get an idea of what you need to do to maximize the DOTS pen.

The other thing we did really early on–once we had the money–was position a camera on the floor, by the notebook, so we could watch it from the van. We incidentally found out that's a perfectly viable sanity management system when my friend/co-hunter's brother was with us, and he and I were talking together in the van, and one of the cameras that nuked a mutual friend, that had happened to land in front of the notebook, picked up it getting written in.

Also, it's worth encouraging that even really experienced players tend to keep playing with the Tier 1 thermo and Tier 1 glowstick/UV, so you have some great devices! (I personally like one T1 UV and then one of whatever tier we're at.)

Of course, my advice is when co-opping. I don't enjoy playing this game alone, and I don't enjoy being hunted even at the level I'm at. I still love watching Lil_P66's videos because he helps me understand all the stuff that I don't understand on my own, and has helped me immensely with learning this dumb little game lol, and I suggest everyone watch all his videos. He speaks plain English and is very friendly to us normies.
